50 Cakes for 50 People

Do you know about Go Mighty? Go Mighty is an organization (network? Community? I don’t really know quite how to describe them) that helps people realize their goals in life. The goals can be enormous (change careers, start a family) or simple in their effectiveness (learn to swim, have a picnic in Central Park). Though I am generally not one to share real, actual things about myself on the Internet (you all may know how much I love Tartine’s flaky tart dough, but I don’t think I have ever bothered to mention, say, what color my hair is), I thought Go Mighty’s positive take on realizing personal goals, and the way those goals can branch out into the realm of having a positive influence on other people, was both interesting and, in a word, nice.

So, in a complete 180 from my standard M.O., I signed up at Go Mighty and comprised a modest list of life goals (I have, thus far, two goals). One of the goals I listed on Go Mighty was that I would like to eventually make 50 cakes for 50 people. Making cakes makes me happy, giving people cakes makes me happy, and people are happy when they receive a cake. Go Mighty liked my goal, so together with Olay, they have offered to sponsor my goal of making 50 cakes for 50 people. Starting tomorrow, I will be featuring 5 of those cakes here on Savory Salty Sweet, as well as on Go Mighty.

It’s been awesome making the cakes so far, and I can’t wait to share them with you. Well, share the stories of the cakes. Unless you live in Portland, OR, in which case, maybe I can actually share a cake with you. You never know.

Darn it! I wish I still lived in Portland so I could beg for a cake. Such a great goal in the baking department.

Your kitchen will be wafting some seriously heavenly aromas! How will you pace yourself?

I’ll have to approach it like a marathon runner. Steady breathing, lots of pre-bake stretching…

If you still lived here, I would totally make you a cake.
